Report by the Acting Captain Superintendent of Police.

On Sunday the 8th. December 1895 two German Engineers (marginally noted) of H.I.G.M.S. "Irene" were arrested in uniform near the range finder of Hung Hom East Battery on War Office land by the Military Authorities and handed over to the Police.

After being searched at Yaumati neither sketches nor photographs being found on them the Inspector in charge of the district communicated with the Acting Captain Superintendent of Police, who directed that they should be released and summoned.

They were released without bail, they promising the Inspector that they would appear at the Police Court in answer to the summonses.

The nature of the summons was explained to them (copies attached) and they were informed at their own request of the locality of the Police Court.

The first named Wax Abraham talked good English and thoroughly understood the situation making enquiry as to the probable penalty that would be imposed.

On the 9th. December 1895 at 4.46 p.m. the Inspector of the District went on board H.I.G.M.S."Irene" then lying outside the dock at Hung Hom, stated his business to the officer of the Watch and was referred to the Commanding Officer who accepted service for the officers summoned and gave his card to the Inspector.
